As Nintendo gets ready to launch their new hand held, the Nintendo 3DS, they are slashing prices on the Nintendo DSi. Nintendo has been the reigning champ with the highest hardware sales, but I bet you didn't know that they also hold the title for longest rock steady pricing. But as NDS sales drop, Nintendo Japan hoped that with this price cut it will revive the sales of the hand held giant. The price dropped from 189,000 yen to 150,000 yen, which is equivalent to 21%. Nintendo also said that they want to put a NDS in every household; which isn't that far fetched considering that they have 130 million sales and 30 million are in Japan alone. So for Nintendo to put a DS in every household in Japan, they just have 17 million more to go.

That is the answer you will get if you were to ask Ubisoft what they thought about 3D gaming. Well after CES the 3D TV boom has started; I'm sure you are all noticing more and more of those 3D TV's hitting the shelves. And along with 3D TV, 3D gaming came as well. Nvidia has already started to move full force into the 3D direction. They had a huge booth at CES letting people test out the 3D games! Nintendo announced the 3DS and Sony Playstation 3 will have a firmware update that will include 3D compatibility, so yes i would say that 3D is the next big thing. I would definitely agree with Ubisoft, I think 3D gaming will take over sooner than we think.

Square Enix's Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies will be launching on July 11 in the US and July 23 for Europe. This game alone sold 4.2 million copies in Japan helping Square Enix have a record breaking year, combined with FFXIII of course. This will be on the Nintendo DS and is said that, "This new game has all of the elements of an instant classic: customization options, a great story, and the ability to share a nearly limitless experience with friends." But you guys have to know that the Dragon Quest Series was never so popular as it is in Japan. So who knows how this new installment will do in the US.

The Nintendo 3DS that will be showing at E3 this year might come with widescreen displays! How do I know? well here is a picture of a prototype board of the Nintendo 3DS. Although it is a prototype you can definitely point out the screens and the speakers. You notice that the bottom screen is of course the squishy looking matte screen, which is most likely the touch screen, and look above it! Behold, the widescreen! What I am guessing is that since the top screen is a wide screen, most likely Nintendo will make the bottom screen wide as well. They probably just used the old touch screen from the older models just for now until they develop the new widescreen touch display. Also Nintendo has requested with the FCC to not release any of the N3DS's internals for a period of 10 months, which started in April and will end RIGHT before the Christmas season rush.

Playstation 2 has been the king of all video game consoles of all time in units sold, but it will soon be knocked out by a little guy you guys all know and probably have. The Nintendo DS will become the all-time best selling console later this year. Analysts that have been following the sales of the NDS predict that by October this year, the NDS's sales will surpass the current record holder (PS2). As Nintendo climbs, it just proves to show that Sony needs to step up the game with their PSP. Luckily they have already announced the PSP2 that will be shown at E3 this year!

Well last month we talked about the Nintendo DSi XL coming out in March, well it finally hit the retail shelves yesterday (March 28th). What’s is different between the XL and the DSi? Well its…extra large, and that’s about it. With the huge increase in size, the NDSi XL also has a screen size that is 93% bigger than the DSi’s screen. The huge screen is to attract and encourage “social” gaming, where kids don’t have to squish onto each other’s shoulders to watch the screen. The slant viewing angle on the XL increased as well as the brightness of the LCD. The screen makes it easier to read text but it causes a problem; the DSi’s screen resolution is 256 x 192, blowing up the screen “93%” will make the images even more pixelated. DSi XL comes with a pair of preloaded puzzle-games, Brain Age Express: Math and Brain Age Express: Arts and Letters. It's also packing the downloadable DSiWare Photo Clock app, which lets you put a digital clock onto your pictures that you took with one of the XL’s twin cameras. The system costs $189.99 (regular DSi - $169.99) and comes in "Bronze" or "Burgundy" colors. Inside the box you will find the DSi XL, instruction manuals, XL stylus pen, AC adapter, and of course the integrated stylus pen. I personally think this size upgrade is nothing to exciting. In my opinion I think that the size increase was to target the older users. I mentioned above that the XL’s makes it easier to read text but pixelates the images. I would definitely not want to give up higher res images, especially because the DSi doesn’t necessarily have the best graphics. All in all, I wouldn’t get this DSi XL; I would just wait for the Nintendo 3DS, whenever that comes out. It just seems like more of a technological advance from the previous versions.

Apparently Nintendo announced that they will be debuting their newest addition to the Nintendo DS family, the Nintendo 3DS. According to Nintendo Japan this portable console will be released in June and the 3D will NOT require 3D glasses. Remember that one article about the DSi doing motion tracking back in February? If not, take a look, it’s pretty impressive. Most likely it will be something like that, but it’s still unclear on how their “3-D System” will work. The N3DS will work with 2 cameras one on the outer surface and one on the inner surface. It will be able to track the user’s eyes so the 3DS can alter the image to make it appear like the user is looking into a 3-D environment. There is still not much information on this console but there is a bunch of rumors floating around of what it MIGHT include:

The new N3DS might have an accelerometer system like the iPhones and iPod Touches.

The LCD screen might be a Sharp Parallax Barrier LCD and it might have a higher resolution than all the other DS’s, maybe up to 720p.

The N3DS might have a Tegra chip powering it.

Nintendo might implement a 3G network chip inside for over-the-air downloads for things such as eBooks; the NDSi-XL already has this function.

The N3DS will have a 3-D joystick function and also might come with a rumble feature.
