This is probably one of the coolest stand/dock for the iPad. It's called the eReader Recliner and its pretty much a reclining chair for the iPad or even a Kindle or any other eReader. You can either lay it flat, where it will be laying on the curved back so that you can tilt the iPad towards or away from you. Or you have the option to pull out the kick stand and prop it up for easy reading or display. The only thing I DON'T like about this accessory is that it looks like it is not too portable.

Don't get me wrong, I still like this accessory but I would only want to use it at home or at the office. I don't want to lug a big piece of plastic everywhere I go. Unfortunately you can't find this on HandHelditems.com but you can find it online for about $30.

The Amazon website has now become one of the staple online sites to shop for almost anything. It's extremely popular and with eReading fans becoming more interested in these devices, it was assumed that the Kindle would sell fairly well. However competing with the Nook and the iPad, the sales of this eReading device are unknown. And with Barnes and Nobles receiving less press and exposure, we would expect the Kindle to outsell the Nook. But apparently for the month of March, the Nook outsold the Kindle. Digitimes Research found that 53 percent of eReaders were the Barnes and Nobles Nook. Although there aren't exact numbers but it looks like the Nook did very well. We can assume that it's due to having a physical store for book readers, they're able to get hands on and use the Nook at their store. With Barnes and Nobles coming out with the Nook 2 and Nook lite, it's  going to become more difficult for Amazon to keep up.

Barnes and Nobles has announced an update to its eReading device the Nook to include a couple of features. This update allows users to browse eBooks for free in stores, and web browsers and also includes Android games.  Users will be able to visit their local Barnes and Nobles and able to browse and read free eBooks once per hour.  WiFi connection was also said to be enhanced to allow users to access more hotspots. A beta web browser was also implemented along with some games like the popular Sudoku. Hopefully these changes will make for a better device and increase its popularity against the iPad but I believe Barnes and Nobles is going to need more than just a update to turn heads their way.

There have been rumors surfacing that Banes and Nobles will be releasing 2 more Nooks to add to their collection of eReaders. The Nook Lite and the Nook 2 are currently what these new reading devices are expected to be called.  The Nook Lite is expected to only be a WiFi version retailing at $199 to attract more casual readers. While unfortunately there has not been any information revealing some of the improved and added features for the Nook 2. Hopefully Barnes and Nobles will include features to interest readers. With the iPad and it's multi function use, the Nook lite might be a good alternative and a more reasonable price, despite lacking 3G.

In my previous article I focused more about the Amazon Kindle coming to Target while briefly mentioned the release date of the Nook to go retail at Best Buy on April 18^th. Instead of selling retail for a department store like Wal-Mart, Barnes and Nobles is taking a different approach and letting Best Buy sell their exclusive eReader. The Nook is to retail at$259.99 both at their physical and online Best Buy store along with some of Nook accessories sold there as well. Kevin Fran, vice president of e-commerce at Barnes and Nobles, stated “to date, we’ve limited Nook distribution to Barnes & Nobles retail and online store and the customer response to our e-book has exceeded our expectations”.

Regardless of where you but the Nook, WiFi will be accessible at any Barnes & Nobles store to all Nook owners. I believe Barnes and Nobles has a slight advantage over the Kindle as users will be able to go into their physical store while using the Nook. It’ll give them a more hands on feel while being able to sit in a bookstore and casually tend to their affairs. So if you’re much interested in the Nook, be sure to check out for it at your local Best Buy April 18.

The iPad is a multi-function device that can do almost anything thanks to its thousands upon thousands of variety apps. One of these features includes being an eReader to allow reading straight from the iPad. Unfortunately this is causing a lot of trouble for the pure eReader devices like the Amazon Kindle, and the Barnes and Nobles Nook. Unlike the iPad, these eReaders are meant and only capable of eReading and with Apple’s large fan base and the iPad released, eReaders are threatened by this towering device with so many extra features and functions.

Despite eReaders being half to less than half the price of an iPad, its one function task makes it less appealing. Unfortunately neither companies have released their sales number for their eReading device but with so much talk about the iPad taking over the eReading business you can assume the numbers aren’t as high as they should be. However these eReaders have been producing apps for the iPad and iPhone to increase sales and are now starting to sell their respective devices in retail stores.  As mentioned in my previous article, these eReaders are now sold at Target and Best Buy.

The Kindle is even creating more aggressive ad campaigns to retaliate against the iPad, mentioning how easy it is to read in bright sunlight. The iPad has been known to easily produce finger marks and users have been complaining about the visibility of the screen in direct sunlight.

These power moves are a great way to remind consumers that eReaders won’t be replaced by tablet devices. But sales figures are what determine the winner and it’s safe to say, that eReaders aren’t out of the game just yet.

The Amazon Kindle, currently sold exclusively at their website, is rumored to be sold at Target stores on April 25^th. Recent news has surfaced stating that Target’s inventory list is now showing the Amazon Kindle to sell at all Target stores. With Barnes and Nobles Nook arriving at Best Buy, it seems like eReaders should learn something from the iPads launch and sell their eReading devices at retail stores. Although I’m unsure as to why they chose Target, they will be the first if not only, place to sell the Kindle aside from Amazon’s own website.
